How to Scale a Funded Account from $50K to $1M
By PropFirmLeaders Team ·
Most traders never scale because they treat the funded account like found money. The ones who scale treat it like a business.
Step 1: Master one $50K account
Run it for 90 days. Pull payouts. Track your edge.
Step 2: Add accounts, not size
Most prop firms cap a single account at $200K–$300K. To get to $1M, you need to combine 3–5 accounts at the same or different firms.
Step 3: Use scaling plans
FTMO, FundedNext and others scale a single account up to 4× ($400K from $100K) when you hit performance milestones.
Step 4: Diversify across firms
No serious trader keeps $1M at a single firm. Spread risk across 2–3 reputable firms.
Step 5: Treat it like a business
- Keep books
- Set aside taxes (prop income is usually treated as 1099/contractor income)
- Reinvest in education, tools, hardware
Realistic timeline
12–24 months from first evaluation to $1M combined allocation, for a profitable trader who follows process.
